Official Procedures

DIVISION I  Pre-competitive (ages 9-10) and Juniors (ages 11-12)

Check-in: Thursday, March 18, 6-7pm. Classes, coaching and competition is held 9:00am – 7pm on Friday. A detailed schedule will be e-mailed in advance.

Division I individuals compete in the Classical Ballet category. Competitors may elect to add an additional classical solo – if second solo is elected, the lower score will be discarded to determine final score. Competitors will be spaced and coached by ABC professional staff prior to the competition. Competition is held in one round with the order of performance determined - youngest to oldest. Entrants may also compete in the Ensemble category.

Select classical variation(s) listed under Classical Ballet Solos – see MUSIC. Student’s teacher should endeavor to adhere to the original choreography but make it age-appropriate for the student.  Variation may be performed on or off pointe and, if on pointe, will be judged for student’s ability and readiness to be working on pointe.

Participants may elect to depart after Division I Awards Ceremony on Friday or stay and participate in master classes and observation of Division II & III competition on Saturday & Sunday, Awards ceremony and Ballet Austin II performance on Sunday. Division I winners may be invited to perform with Ballet Austin II on Sunday, March 21.

Division I Entry Fee: $205 – $70 for additional classical solo. Includes VIP Competitor Credential for master classes, coaching/spacing sessions, all competition rounds (Fri-Sun), Certificate of Participation, ticket to all competition rounds, Awards Ceremonies, Ballet Austin II Performance and Reception on Sunday, March 21.

 

DIVISION II –Seniors (ages 13-16)

Check-in: Friday, March 19, 2010 – 6-7pm Ballet Austin. Classes, coaching and competitions begin 9am Saturday, March 20. Detailed schedule will be e-mailed prior to competition.

Division II individuals compete in the Classical Ballet solo category in 2 rounds, selecting variations from ABC’s variations list -see MUSIC. Competitors may elect to perform an additional classical solo and may also compete in Contemporary and Ensemble categories. Performance order is determined by drawing a number at check-in.

Round 1 Saturday: Contestants perform their first classical variation pre-selected and prepared from ABC’s short list of variations. On Saturday, this variation will be additionally coached by ABC staff and then performed in class attire for the jury. All contestants proceed to second round on Sunday.

Round 2 Sunday: Seniors may elect to compete with Saturday’s variation in costume or with a different variation from ABC’s long list of variations. An optional additional variation may be performed. If additional variation is performed, lower score will be discarded for final score.

Division II Entry Fee: $285 - $70 for adding additional classical and/or contemporary solo(s). Includes rounds 1 & 2 classical solos, VIP Credential for master classes
(Fri-Sun), coaching, Certificate of Participation, Awards Ceremonies, ticket to all competition rounds,
Ballet Austin II Performance and Reception on Sunday.

 

DIVISION III  Pre-Professionals (ages 17-20)


Check-in:
Friday, March 19, 6:30-7:30pm Ballet Austin. Classes, coaching and competitions begin 9am Saturday, March 20. Detailed schedule will be e-mailed prior to competition.

Division III Pre-Professionals must compete in both Classical and Contemporary categories held in 3 rounds. Competitors may elect to perform an additional classical solo and may also compete in Ensemble category. Performance order is determined by a drawing number at check-in.

Round 1 Saturday: Contestants perform their first classical variation pre-selected and prepared from ABC’s short list of variations. On Saturday this variation will be additionally coached by ABC staff and then performed in class attire for the jury.

Round 2 Saturday: Pre-professionals compete with their contemporary solo.

Round 3 Sunday: Final round. Must perform with different classical ballet variation selected from ABC’s long list. An optional additional variation may be performed. Third classical variation must be different from first and second variations.  If additional variation is performed, lower score will be discarded for final score.

Division III Entry Fee: $305 - $70 for additional classical solo entry. Includes rounds 1 & 3 classical solos, round 2 contemporary solo, VIP Credential for all master classes (Fri-Sun), coaching, Certificate of Participation, Awards Ceremonies, ticket to all competition rounds,
Ballet Austin II Performance and Reception on Sunday.

 

ENSEMBLES

Leader Check-in: Friday, 7-7:30pm or Saturday, March 20 8:30-9:00am. Group performers may but aren’t required to compete in Classical or Contemporary Individual categories. Register in Division as determined by the average age of the performers.  Ensembles will compete Saturday afternoon – detailed schedule will be sent prior competition. Groups must attach completed ABC ensemble participant list to their registration form.

Ensemble Entry Fee: $250 (includes first four entries) plus $30 per additional performer. $25 per master class per entry. Includes ticket to all competition rounds, Awards Ceremonies and Reception on Sunday. (*Inclusions not for those competing in Individual Classical Category as they are previously covered.)

 

CONTEMPORARY SOLO ONLY

Leader Check-in: Friday, 7-7:30pm or Saturday, March 20 8:30-9:00am. Contemporary will compete Saturday afternoon – detailed schedule will be sent prior competition. Student dancers who wish to compete only as contemporary contestants may enter the Contemporary Solo category separately from the Ballet Divisions II and III. Ages 13-20 may compete. Must fill out a separate Contemporary Solo Only form (coming soon).

Contemporary Only Entry Fee: $205. $70 additional contemporary solo. Master Class Fee: $25 per class. Includes ticket to all competition rounds, Awards Ceremonies and Reception on Sunday. For those wishing to compete in the Contemporary Solo competition only a separate registration form is required (coming soon).
