THE INSTITUTE FOR DANCE EDUCATION ARTS, INC. (IDEA) is the umbrella organization for The American Ballet Competition and International Dance Teacher Seminars. It is dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the art and excellence of ballet education, teaching and performance.
The American Ballet Competition is a competition with a difference. It exposes contestants to international guest teachers through master classes, coaching/staging sessions and unmatched opportunities to be viewed by professional dance directors. Awards include traineeships and scholarships to prestigious dance schools in the U.S. and abroad. It is conducted in an educational, positive and organized atmosphere that promotes the artistic and technical growth of all participants and provides valuable insights and reality checks that address each contestant’ s professional expectations.
IDEA’s International Dance Teacher Seminars recognize that the future of dance depends upon great teachers. In keeping with its commitment to the continuing education and development of dance teachers, IDEA presents master pedagogues representing the major classical dance styles. Seminars provide teachers from private and professional dance schools, colleges and universities opportunities to enhance and inspire their teaching skills. Basic understanding of student development through class progression, technique, musicality, dance history and artistry are among the subjects comprehensively covered.
